Recently the JustGoods building owner Lee Schreiner applied for a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to have solar panels installed on the roof. Along with the LED light bulbs currently installed inside the store, energy savings can amount to $1000 or more annually. Definitely a positive in regards to overhead costs for JustGoods and Rockford Urban Ministries and in keeping with the philosophy of fair trade and sustainability.
The solar panels arrived June 15th and are now up on the roof ready to be assembled. Lee hopes to have a computer hooked up to the panels to show energy production and a side-by-side comparison to the wind turbine currently installed.
